About Us

Love Thy Neighbor (LTN) is a beacon of hope, blending faith, compassion, and construction to profoundly impact communities. Born in the small town of Viburnum, Missouri, this multi-denominational initiative follows a mission inspired by Jesus’ teachings, offering free home repairs to those in need. Celebrating over a decade of service, LTN has not only attracted a broad volunteer base and amassed significant financial support but has also seen its model of service and unity replicated in seven other Missouri towns as of 2024. By embodying the principle of “loving thy neighbor as thyself,” LTN transcends mere home improvement, fostering unity across different church denominations and encouraging a widespread legacy of kindness. The organization demonstrates the power of faith transformed into action, inviting anyone moved by its mission to contribute to this growing legacy of compassion and constructive aid.

Our Impact

Transforming Lives and Landscapes

Over the years, LTN Viburnum has undertaken a wide array of projects, including 36 roof repairs, over 75 light construction projects like decks, ramps, siding repair, covered porches, and numerous other acts of service that have significantly impacted our community. All work done for homeowners is provided 100% free of charge, made possible by generous donations from those in our community. With every deck built, roof repaired, and house painted, we’ve not only improved homes but also uplifted spirits.

Economic and Community Growth

Our work has had a considerable economic impact, with a very conservative estimate of $225,000 contributed to the Viburnum community in 2023 alone. This encompasses the value of materials purchased, volunteer hours, and the increased property values post-completion. Cumulatively, our fundraising efforts are nearing a quarter of a million dollars, underscoring the profound financial and emotional investment our community has made toward bettering the lives of its members.

Our Process

At Love Thy Neighbor, our mission is rooted in service, unity, and transformation. Here’s how our process brings this mission to life, ensuring that every project not only rebuilds homes but also strengthens the fabric of our community.

A Journey of Compassion

Homeowner Applications

Each year, we invite homeowners in need to submit applications for essential home repairs. Our aim is to address every viable project, providing support to those who cannot undertake these repairs on their own.

Community-Sourced Materials

In a bid to support local businesses and foster community spirit, all materials for the projects are sourced from local vendors and lumber yards. This approach ensures that our efforts benefit not only individual homeowners but also the broader local economy.

Volunteer-Powered Efforts

The heart of Love Thy Neighbor beats with the energy and dedication of our volunteers. Individuals from all walks of life and generations come together, donating their time and skills. Interestingly, our volunteers contribute not only their labor but also financially, through participation fees, further demonstrating their commitment to our cause.

Funding Our Mission

Our operations are sustained through a combination of annual fundraisers, participation fees, donations from generous individuals, and partnerships with local businesses. This multifaceted support system ensures we have the resources needed to carry out our work effectively.

Skilled Leadership

Each project benefits from the guidance of a skilled crew chief, ensuring that work is carried out to a high standard. Moreover, local contractors guarantee the quality of our projects, providing homeowners with peace of mind.

A Week of Service and Fellowship

The highlight of our year is the week-long service event each summer, where youth groups and volunteers engage in intensive project work. This week is not just about construction; it’s a time of community, worship, and reflection. Volunteers stay at the church, participating in nightly worship services led by a praise band. Each job site hosts a devotional session, inviting homeowners to join in a moment of reflection and prayer, fostering a deeper connection between volunteers and the families we serve.
